Nepali Gang at IIT Roorkee

Charles Bukowski once said "When nobody wakes you up in the morning, and nobody waits for you at night, and you can do whatever you want; what do you call it? Freedom or loneliness?" Makes you think, doesn't it? Everyone plays a role in your life, even the ones you barely notice.

Same country, but we were all so different languages, habits, cultures. I met Parsoon first in registration day. His room was just opposite of my room; we both stayed two years in same (6th floor). Registration got messed up, so I ended up in the second batch with Asmita Rijal. Same date, same time. That's how I met her, she's from Kathmandu.

Next day, Ravi Mishra from Birgunj who was also my batchmate. Mona and Aditi were sitting with him in canteen of VK, so I met them too. Dipendra Yadav and Saurabh Jha (senior) basically showed me the ropes, explained all the rules of hostel. I knew them through Saubhagya Majhi Dai; we worked together at Rishikesh Engineering Consultancy in Kathmandu.

Later on, second semester; Ayusha, Anjali, Niranjan, and Sumit came in. Ayusha and Mona; Best friends. Like, actually best friends. I talked to Mona too. She's genuinely nice, but I was weirdly scared of her. Tried getting over it by talking more. It was my bad idea, got even more nervous. But one thing I loved about her, she genuinely loves Maithili culture. Speaks it so sweetly.

Prateek Dai, Rajan Dai, Shiv Ranjan Dai, they were a tripod. Niranjan also came after first semester and stayed in same floor (6th floor) after mid Sem, he shifted to second floor. That guy was hilarious. You could never be bored around him.

Sameer Nepal, flew to Kathmandu with him for internship. He even introduced me to his parents. Ujjwal and Anmol? The "Nepali Gang" politicians. Always scheming something. Vishal and Rahul Roy? Whole different league. Coding is easy; understanding those two? Nearly impossible.

Studied SSC with Prateek Gaire and Shreya, AI application in Marketing. Sanjay sir was a Bank for me, especially when I needed to exchange Nepali currency. And Asmita... she was the one who noticed when I sat alone in the mess and came over. No drama, no attitude, just quietly kind.

That Hospital Nights, Rahul Mahato got admitted we all rushed there and talked for hours. Same thing when Niranjan was in hospital. Those long, random conversations at 2 AM? Unforgettable.

Rishi; helpful, and the biggest flirty (Non-veg level) I've ever met, if you know what I mean. Haha.

We weren't just friends; we were like a family.

We started so strong. New Year's together, all of us. Felt like it would last forever. It didn't. Groups split. I still wonder if we'd stayed together, how many more memories? How many more celebrations?

But that's life, I guess. Now everyone's drifting, some getting married, jobs, some chasing abroad. We will all get busy. When we'll all meet again? No idea.

Convocation is coming. Not even sure I will make it.
